Trump Orders DC Prosecutors To Seek Death Penalty
President Trump signed an executive order instructing D.C. prosecutors to seek the death penalty wherever possible by bringing violent crimes under federal jurisdiction. The death penalty is outlawed in D.C., but is allowed for certain crimes under federal law. [WUSA9]
White House Calls For Firing Ahead of Potential Shutdown
The White House told federal agencies to draft mass firing plans if the government shuts down next week. The reduction would permanently eliminate positions whose funding would lapse during the shutdown and are “not consistent with the President’s priorities.” [Politico]
Nadeau Steps Down After 11 Years
Ward 1 Councilmember Brianne Nadeau won’t seek a fourth term, she announced Thursday. The Ward 1 primary, scheduled for next June, is expected to be competitive. [WTOP]
