👑 Thousands attend No Kings protest
October 20, 2025 · 💌 Kaela
Hey, neighbor! Times are tough and a little check from mama D.C. might be just what you need. D.C.’s unclaimed property unit holds money from businesses or government offices when they owe you money but can’t reach you. Here’s how to claim it.

What's CITY Talking About

Thousands Protest at 'No Kings' DC
Roughly 200K demonstrators came out for D.C.'s No Kings protest on Saturday, organizers say, joining 2,700 other locations nationwide. Protesters gathered on Pennsylvania Avenue NW dressed in yellow with musicians and speakers throughout, bringing a hopeful atmosphere to the activation. [NBC4]
DC Restaurant Says Balos Owners of Ripped Them Off
The owners of Millie’s, a Nantucket seafood restaurant in Northwest D.C., are accusing the New York operators of Balos and Bar Angie of ripping off their logo and menu for their new Long Island restaurant. And I admit, they do look pretttttty similar. [Washingtonian]
We’re Losing the Rat War
Rat sightings in D.C. rose nearly 13-fold from 2014 to 2024. In contrast, the famously ratty New York saw fewer rats in 2024 than ever before. Maybe it’s time to get those rat-hunting dog teams back on the streets. [Economist 🔒/City Cast DC 🎧]
Shenandoah Open, Free, but Troubled
Shenandoah remains open despite the government shutdown and you can even enter and do the Skyline Drive for free (yay!). But, the unfortunate flip side is without that entrance free during peak season, the park is facing a bad budget shortfall. [National Parks Traveler]
