✊ DC music venue workers seek union
October 22, 2025 · 💌 Kaela
Morning D.C.! A local runner is *adding* one mile to his daily run for each day the government shutdown continues. He’s already at 22 miles. Who’s gonna give in first?

What's CITY Talking About
DC Music Venue Employees Seek Union
Employees at four D.C. music venues — the Anthem, 9:30 Club, Lincoln Theatre, and the Atlantis — are taking steps to unionize. More than a hundred employees brought a petition to production company I.M.P. Monday in response to claims of stagnant wages and safety concerns. [Washington Post 🔒]
AWS Outage Traced Back To NoVa
Remember that massive Amazon Web Services outage that crippled some financial service, retail, and airlines Monday? Well, the call is coming from inside the house! (Kinda) It’s been traced back to the company’s data center in Northern Virginia. Eek! [Washington Business Journal 🔒]
National Guard Likely To Remain ‘Indefinitely’
The 2,500 National Guard deployed in D.C. could remain until America 250 celebrations next summer, according to new documents filed by D.C.'s Attorney General's Office. The AG’s filing renews his request for a preliminary injunction to end the National Guard deployment. [WJLA]
DC’s Craze With the Supernatural
Seances used to be all the rage among the rich and powerful in D.C. Even Mary Todd Lincoln was known for hosting exclusive seances in her sitting room. Historian Mark Benbow takes us back to the haunted habits of old-time D.C. [City Cast DC 🎧]

Final performances of Folger Theatre’s Julius X!
This “urgent and timeless” (The Washington Lobbyist) new play by Peabody Award-winning journalist Al Letson remixes Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar with the history of Malcolm X, sampling lyrically and historically from Shakespeare’s text, famous speeches by Civil Rights leaders, and Letson’s own verse. Playing through October 26 at the Folger Shakespeare Library.
