City Cast DC with Michael Schaffer
🗳️ Virginia, it’s time to vote!
November 4, 2025 · 💌 Kaela
Morning neighbor. More and more Washingtonians are considering leaving D.C., prompted by the impact of Trump’s second term. How about you?

What's CITY Talking About
SNAP Restarts, But Only Half
The Trump administration agreed to restart SNAP benefits in November but will only provide half the typical amount. The decision comes after two federal judges ruled that freezing SNAP benefits is unlawful. D.C. has said it will use $30M in local funds to cover the gap for low income residents. [City Cast DC 🎧]
Government Shutdown Verging On Longest Ever
If the government shutdown goes one more day, it will be the longest in history. Now on its 35th day, the shutdown is tied with the 2018 shutdown during Trump’s first term. It's not looking like it will be resolved this week. [WTOP]
- Luckily, dozens of government shutdown specials are still going strong. [Axios]
Farewell, Pumpkins
Tragically, it's time to get rid of those jack-o-lanterns. (Seriously, the rats love them.) It’s best to compost or recycle them at places accepting pumpkins rather than trash them. Or you can hit up one of the BYO jack-o'-lantern smash stations. [Axios]
Navy Yard Gathering Prompts New Youth Curfew
Mayor Bowser declared a citywide youth curfew over the weekend in response to a Navy Yard incident that ended in 10 kids being arrested. The curfew starts at 11 p.m. for anyone under 18 and will end Wednesday at midnight. [Washington Post 🔒]
