Spanberger wins VA governor’s seat
November 5, 2025 · 💌 Kaela
Morning, neighbor! D.C. is a lot battier than you might think (we’re talking about the animals in this case). Today on the pod we’re taking a crash course on D.C.’s bat populations and why we should love, not fear them. 🦇

What's CITY Talking About
Dems Sweep Top Three Seats in Virginia
Democrat Abigail Spanberger will be Virginia's first female governor. She ran on an economic message that centered DOGE and the cost of living. Democrat Ghazala F. Hashmi also won her race for lieutenant governor and will become the first Muslim woman to serve statewide in Virginia. Finally, Democrat Jay Jones also won for attorney general, despite a major texting scandal nearly upending his campaign. [Washington Post 🔒 / AP]
Sub Sandwich Guy Goes To Trial
Sean Dunn, the man who threw a sub sandwich at a Border Patrol officer, went to trial this week. A grand jury declined to indict him so now he’s wbeing charged with a misdemeanor. His lawyers claim the prosecution is politically motivated, juxtaposing his case with the Capitol rioters Trump pardoned who were recorded hurling explosives and being violent. [Washington Post 🔒]
DCA Bomb Threat Grounds Planes
All planes at DCA were briefly stopped yesterday due to an “unconfirmed bomb report.” The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is still investigating. [ABC7]
The Largest House You’ve Ever Seen
A massive — and I mean ginormous — house is being built in McClean. At 53,000 square feet with 10 bedrooms and two elevators, it will likely be one of the largest in the region. [Axios]
- Related: Home sales are stalling and inventory is up in the DMV, but high-end home buyers remain active: Sales of $2 million-plus homes were up 9.9% in September. [Axios]
Pokémon Card Thieves Hit DMV
There have been a number of burglaries in the DMV recently of high-value Pokémon and baseball cards, with some cards worth upward of a thousand dollars. Police are still tracking the suspects. [Washington Post 🔒]
