People Mover Crashes at IAD
Eighteen people were hospitalized after a people mover at Dulles International Airport crashed while bringing passengers back to a gate. [ABC7]
Metrobus Adopts ‘Tap to Ride’
D.C. buses will start using Tap to Ride by mid-November, allowing riders to tap a credit or debit card directly on the fare reader. WMATA launched the same system on Metro this May. [WTOP]
VA Pauses SNAP Benefits
Virginia is pausing all emergency nutrition benefits to comply with Trump’s order to undo any steps to issue full SNAP benefits this month. However, D.C. "has no plans to revoke or undo" SNAP payments for November. [ABC7]

District Homicide Rate Slows
D.C. homicides dropped about 30% in 2024 according to analysis by the Washington Post, but they are still concentrated in Wards 7 and 8. Officials say the decline is due to stricter punishment and new laws that make it easier to hold defendants before trial. [Washington Post 🔒]
