National Guard shooting fallout continues
December 1, 2025 · 💌 Kaela
Welcome back! After 12 years Mayor Bowser is hanging up her hat. It has us wondering: What would your dream D.C. mayor look like? What policies are they prioritizing? What cuts are they making?
My dream mayor is someone who encourages streateries, who cracks down on traffic deaths, who makes Downtown pedestrian only, who overhauls our 911 system, and who makes it easy to be proud of living in D.C.

What's CITY Talking About
National Guard Shooting Fallout Continues
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced yesterday that the suspect in the National Guard shooting was likely radicalized in the U.S. Also that President Trump’s indefinite pause on immigration from third world countries, put in place after the suspect was identified as an Afghan national, would be lifted after the administration has reviewed the backlog of cases under new standards. - Additionally, local police have started temporarily patrolling with National Guard troops. A more long-term policy change is under discussion and could significantly shift law enforcement in D.C. [Washington Post 🔒]
Let It Snow, But Not Too Much
Winter snow predictions are here and it’s looking like a slightly below-average snowfall year in D.C., between 8 to 14 inches. [Washington Post 🔒]

SNAP’s Back, But Hurdles Remain
SNAP benefits are finally back after the government shutdown but Republicans’ “big, beautiful bill,” passed over the summer, expands the work requirements for enrollees to receive them. The new requirements will result in 2.4 million fewer Americans receiving food stamps starting in March. [WTOP]
