What's CITY Talking About
Smithsonian Must Comply with Review, White House Says
The Trump administration has once again threatened to withhold federal funding from the Smithsonian if it doesn't comply with the White House’s review. Earlier this year, Trump ordered the museums to root out “divisive narratives,” but officials say the materials handed over fell far short of what was requested. [WTOP]
The $3M Lawsuit Over Hot Ice Cream
Tyra Banks and her “Hot Ice Cream” brand, Smize & Dream, is being sued after allegedly breaking their contract for a 10-year lease in an Eastern Market storefront. The scoop shop did open, just in Sydney, Australia, not D.C. [Washington Post 🔒]
Tracking White House Swedish Ivy All Over DC
Cuttings from a Swedish ivy plant that lived for decades on the mantle of the oval office have quietly made their way all over D.C. — a local tradition that’s been spreading for decades. City Cast’s Annie Rees has a cutting and has been getting to the root ( 😉 ) of its history. [City Cast DC 🎧]
- P.S. — We’re giving away TWO cuttings of Swedish Ivy from the Obama White House to City Cast DC members! If you’re not a member and want one, then sign up today!
Congressional Review Faults Army In DCA Crash
Days after the U.S. government admitted fault in the deadly January plane crash at DCA, a new Congressional report blames the Army, saying they are concerned with the military’s tendency to fly aircrafts in congested areas. Subsequently, they asked the Pentagon for a full review military aircraft operations in civilian-controlled airspace. [Washington Post 🔒]
