DC’s Food Trends for 2026
January 13, 2026 · 💌 Kaela
Morning! Remember when cupcakes were all the rage in D.C.? Or mini martinis (I stand by this)? D.C. loves a food trend, but what’s going to be popular in 2026? Washingtonian’s food editor, Jessica Sidman, talks with us about what's in and out in D.C. dining this year.

What's CITY Talking About
More Money From Congress
The House and Senate Appropriations Committees passed legislation that aid's D.C.'s coffers. Specifically, $90 million will go towards safety efforts for the America250 celebrations, and $40 million to the D.C. Tuition Assistance Program. [Mayor Bowser/X]
MD Bill Seeks to Ban Hiring of ICE Agents
A new bill was proposed in Maryland banning ICE agents from working in state public safety jobs. Its sponsor, Del. Adrian Boafo (D-Prince George’s) created the legislation hours before an ICE officer killed Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, saying they are the type of people that “just wreak havoc.” [NBC4]
Measles Exposure Risk
A Northern Virginia child with measles traveled around the DMV and Philadelphia, including spending time at BWI airport. Check the article for a full list of potential exposure sites. [Washington Post 🔒]
These Federal Agencies Cut the Most Jobs
According to the Washington Post, 335,000 federal workers left the government between January and November last year. Newly released data shows which agencies and what jobs suffered the most. USAID, the Education Department, and the Treasury had the largest cuts. [Washington Post 🔒]
