The Ballroom Project Can Proceed, Rules Judge
A judge rejected a preservationist group’s request to halt Trump’s $400 million East Wing ballroom project until it wins approval from Congress. The judge said the challenge was based on a "ragtag group of theories," and would have more success if they amended the lawsuit. [NBC4]
NYT Expands DC Sports Coverage
The Athletic — a sports arm of The New York Times — is adding six laid-off Washington Post sports writers to its team. The editor said he hopes they can become Washingtonian’s go-to place for sports news after the Post shrank their coverage. [Axios]
ICE Arrest At Local Police Station Sparks Controversy
D.C. police are once again taking criticism for allegedly assisting ICE in immigration arrests. One man, Jose Argueta, reported his car stolen and ended up being arrested when he was called in to pick up his car. Police said they used the stolen vehicle report to determine his residence status. Now he's part of a lawsuit. [Washington Post 🔒]
Where Are The Mayoral Candidates?
It’s been a quiet month, but the mayor’s race is heating up as the two front-runners — Kenyan McDuffie and Janeese Lewis George — go head-to-head on issues including ICE, childcare, and affordability. They’ve even been putting in some strategically placed jabs at one another. [City Cast DC 🎧]

Friday Floof

Welcome to our new bi-weekly tradition, where we feature a different pet twice a month from City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue that is looking for a forever home!
Chipie
(Female, 3-years-old)
Chipie is on the hunt for a companion who will enjoy her love of zoomies, cardboard boxes, and wand toys. She also loves meeting and snuggling with people. If you have a blanket on your lap, be prepared not to move for a good long time!
This outgoing lovebug has a condition called pica, which means that she sometimes eats things that she shouldn’t 🥲 So, she takes regular meds (which she loves!), eats a tasty prescription diet, and is looking for a home that can limit her access to clothing, bedding, and plants.
