House Votes To Extend Trump’s ‘Safe and Beautiful’ Crackdown On DC To 2029

On Wednesday the House passed a bill extending President Donald Trump’s task force to make D.C. “safe and beautiful” — which ramped up federal law enforcement and immigration arrests in the District — through the remainder of his four-year term. The bill must still pass the Senate. [Washington Post 🔒]

Washington Gas Failed To Track Gas Leaks

A new report says that Washington Gas failed to properly report 1,600 gas leaks in D.C. between 2023 and 2025. The D.C. Public Service Commission is asking for an independent evaluation of the company’s data tracking protocols, saying it could be limiting the District’s ability to focus on pipe repairs. [ABC7]

MoCo Takes Steps To Limit ICE

Montgomery County unanimously passed a new bill that bans ICE agents from entering any non-public county buildings without a warrant. It will now go to County Executive Marc Elrich to sign into law. The county is also considering an ICE Out Act which would block private companies from opening immigration detention centers. [WTOP]

Pirro Wants To Prosecute DC Teens

U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro said she is coming for the kids involved in D.C.’s “teen takeovers.” “They've got to be made accountable,” Pirro said at a community meeting where residents raised concerns following a recent violent Navy Yard incident. Specifically, Pirro said she wants to change D.C. law so she can prosecute defendants under 16. [ABC7]
