Push to get Trump’s name off the Kennedy Center
March 27, 2026 · 💌 Kaela
Happy Birthday! Not you, silly. D.C. Metro turns 50 today! The first portion to open was a 4.6 mile stretch on the Red Line from Rhode Island Avenue to Farragut North. There is a party this morning at Metro Center! And an unofficial one at Metrobar tonight.

What's CITY Talking About
Rest In Peace DC Streetcar
The D.C. Streetcar will make its final run on March 31 after a decade of transit turmoil. The streetcar was once part of a vision for a city-wide network but instead resulted in high costs and low ridership. But H Street bars are going to give it a worthy send off all the same. [City Cast DC 🎧/X]
The Fight To Get Trump’s Name Off the Kennedy Center
Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-OH) asked a federal judge to force the Kennedy Center to remove President Trump’s name. She argues that adding Trump’s name undermines its purpose as a memorial to the late John F. Kennedy. [NBC4]
- The center also began layoffs yesterday, with cuts to programming, development, advertising and marketing. The exact number of people is unclear, but includes leadership Nick Meade and Rick Loughery. [Washington Post 🔒]
Metro Budget Shoots For Service Increases
Metro General Manager Randy Clarke’s proposed budget for the next fiscal year includes shorter weekday wait times on the Orange, Silver, and Blue lines and service increases on 15% of local bus routes. But, Metro’s convoluted funding model means it relies heavily on annual subsidies from D.C., Maryland, and Virginia who will weigh in on the final budget. [WMATA]
Office Building Sale Kicks Off ‘Fedlandia’ Neighborhood
The General Services Administration sold the former Department of Homeland Security building across from L'Enfant Plaza to a local residential developer. 1 million-square-foot space will be the first real effort to transform Southwest Federal Center — dubbed “fedlandia” — into a real neighborhood. Park Police Shot On Patrol In Unmarked Tesla
The story of the Park Police shooting got weirder this week after the Post found that the officer was shot after following Asheile Foster — a suspect in a recent drug charge — and his grandmother home in an unmarked Tesla. Park Police Chief described the attack as an ambush, but neither Foster nor his grandmother knew it was a police officer, they said. [Washington Post 🔒]
