Red tape delayed sewer maintenance, WaPo finds
April 3, 2026 · 💌 Kaela
Morning! Love is fleeting but snowcrete endures. Large greying piles of the stuff remain despite 80 degree temps if you know where to look. But the biggest pile of them all remains in the parking lot at Carter Barron in Northwest.

What's CITY Talking About
Sewer Line Maintenance Was Delayed Years, Leading To Disaster
A new investigation by The Washington Post revealed that a drawn out environmental review by the National Park Service delayed plans to reinforce corroded sewer lines for years, resulting in catastrophic failure. D.C. Water sought to strengthen a three-quarter-mile section back in 2018, that included the point that later ruptured. [Washington Post 🔒]
DC Lawmakers Jump On Cannabis Drink Trend
A new proposal by Bowser would allow D.C. breweries and distilleries to partner with licensed cannabis outlets to make nonalcoholic cannabis drinks. They would need a specific license and could only sell them at dispensaries but could open a new trending income stream for local businesses. It now heads to D.C. Council. [Axios]
Forest Service Shuts DC Headquarters
The U.S. Forest Service is moving its headquarters from D.C. to Salt Lake City as part of a controversial reorganization that will relocate most of the organization's D.C. employees. The Trump administration says it’s to move officials closer to forest communities but employees are calling it a “pointless exercise.” [Government Executive]
Bowser Condemns DC Lawmakers as ‘Soft On Crime’
Mayor Bowser accused D.C. Council of being “soft on crime” after they delayed the vote to extend the city’s targeted youth curfew. She said she's keeping all options on the table, including declaring a public safety emergency so the curfew could remain during spring break when kids are out and about. [City Cast DC 🎧]
