Trump’s $10B plan to ‘beautify’ DC
April 6, 2026 · 💌 Kaela
Rise and shine! Stuck nursing a hangover after Sunday brunch went a little too hard? It happens to the best of us. So crack open that Pedialyte and settle in, because we’re chatting with Washingtonian’s Ann Limpert about our favorite D.C. hangover munchies. Fair warning, some of them get a little freaky.

What's CITY Talking About
$10B To Beautify DC
Trump has proposed a $10 billion fund to “beautify” D.C. called the Presidential Capital Stewardship Program. It would be used to renovate parks, infrastructure, transportation, and “enhance architectural grandeur.” While local officials have long complained about federal neglect of D.C.’s public spaces, critics worry it will pave the way for Trump to implement more controversial aesthetic ideas. - Plus, Trump filed an appeal over the weekend to keep building the White House ballroom after a federal judge's order put it on pause. They argue that halting the $400 million project would raise national security risks. [Washington Post 🔒]
WaPo Rehires Laid-Off Staff
The Washington Post has quietly rehired several staff laid-off in February’s massive cuts that got rid of over a third of its newsroom, including most of the Sports and Metro sections. This includes Bailey Johnson rehired to cover the Washington Capitals and Danielle Allentuck to cover the Washington Nationals. [New York Post]
Rat Birth Control Is All the Rage
D.C. is spending $130,000 on a pilot program to fight rat infestations, starting in Adams Morgan. The program will use a combination of liquid contraceptives and improved trash disposal practices to stop the problem before it starts, rather than poisoning existing rat burrows. [Washington Post 🔒]
3 Injured In Metrobus Crash
A Metrobus crashed into the Ambar restaurant in Shaw Saturday morning, injuring three. The crash happened after the bus was hit by an SUV causing it to go straight into the empty restaurant. [WJLA]
How Much Parking Is Too Much Parking?
A federal commission unanimously approved the preliminary plan for the new Washington Commanders stadium. But, like many of us, they raised concerns about the hulking 11 story parking garages pictured on either side. “I have rarely ever seen a beautiful parking facility,” said the commission chair.
