What's CITY Talking About

Local Restaurant Award Finalists

D.C.’s restaurant association dropped their annual award finalists. Few newbies made the rankings despite this being a bumper year for openings. But we’re always happy to see some of our favorites like Pascual and 2Fifty Texas BBQ among the contenders. Several categories — including a brand new “Content Creator of the Year” award — will open for public voting on April 20. [RAMW]

Trump Taps Endowment for Humanities to Fund Arch

Trump said he plans to use $15 million from the National Endowment for the Humanities to fund his "Triumphal Arch.” The spending plan confirms that the project will be partially paid for using taxpayer dollars despite earlier claims that it was already fully funded. [NOTUS]

MPD Releases Footage of Shooting By Federal Agent

D.C. police released body-camera footage from an incident last October where Phillip Brown was shot at by a federal agent during a traffic stop. Brown was unharmed but charged with fleeing the scene, which was later dismissed when police withheld any mention of the shooting. MPD declined to release the footage until D.C. Council passed a bill requiring its disclosure last month. [Washington City Paper]

What To Do About DC’s ‘Teen Takeovers’

Local legislators can’t agree on how to deal with D.C.’s “teen takeover” problem, and the issue is back in the spotlight after a fight Saturday night in Southwest led to eight arrests. Some are looking to public late-night teen events as the answer, while others, including Mayor Bowser, want to extend the curfews. [Washington Post 🔒]
